Often, even we adults <strong>struggle to adhere to the boundaries<\/strong> we set for ourselves, let alone those set by others. Now, as parents, we are tasked with setting boundaries for our children and expecting them to follow them. First, it&#8217;s important to note that children act as <strong>mirrors<\/strong>. Yes, I know you&#8217;ve heard this phrase countless times, but unfortunately or fortunately, it is entirely true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t adhere to simple boundaries in your daily life, don&#8217;t expect your children to follow the boundaries you set for them. Let&#8217;s take a look at what boundaries are and what they are not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"%25cf%2584%25ce%25b9-%25ce%25b5%25ce%25af%25ce%25bd%25ce%25b1%25ce%25b9-%25cf%2584%25ce%25b1-%25cf%258c%25cf%2581%25ce%25b9%25ce%25b1\">What Are Boundaries?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Boundaries<\/strong> <strong>are<\/strong> respect, freedom, balance, taking personal responsibility, self-confidence, love, protection, need, desire, and mutual understanding. On the other hand, boundaries <strong>are NOT<\/strong> strictness, restriction, punishment, rigidity, threat, or an unyielding line. Remember, in the relationship between you and your child, <strong>YOU are the adult<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"%25ce%25b1%25cf%2585%25cf%2584%25cf%258c-%25cf%2583%25ce%25b7%25ce%25bc%25ce%25b1%25ce%25af%25ce%25bd%25ce%25b5%25ce%25b9-%25ce%25b1%25cf%2585%25cf%2584%25ce%25bf%25ce%25bc%25ce%25ac%25cf%2584%25cf%2589%25cf%2582-%25cf%2580%25cf%2589%25cf%2582-%25ce%25bc%25ce%25ad%25cf%2587%25cf%2581%25ce%25b9-%25ce%25bd%25ce%25b1-%25ce%25b5\">This means that until your child reaches adulthood, YOU are:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first to <strong>listen<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first to <strong>forgive<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first to <strong>understand<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first to <strong>apologize<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first to <strong>compromise<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The only one who will always find a way out when things get out of hand.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To set <strong>boundaries for our children<\/strong>, we must follow certain rules ourselves and not deviate from them when things get tough.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7-%25ce%25ba%25ce%25b1%25ce%25bd%25cf%258c%25ce%25bd%25ce%25b5%25cf%2582-%25ce%25b3%25ce%25b9%25ce%25b1-%25cf%2584%25ce%25b1-%25ce%25b4%25ce%25b9%25ce%25ba%25ce%25ac-%25cf%2583%25ce%25bf%25cf%2585-%25cf%258c%25cf%2581%25ce%25b9%25ce%25b1\">7 Rules for Your Own Boundaries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stay firm in your decision<\/strong>: No means no, and yes means yes! Children understand everything. If they sense there is an escape route and a chance to bypass the boundaries you set, consider it already done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Explain exactly what you mean and MEAN IT!<\/strong> Otherwise, children get confused. Also, keep in mind that you will need to provide the necessary explanations for anything you say. So, think before you speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t make promises you CAN&#8217;T keep!<\/strong> Children remember everything, especially what interests them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Respect is a two-way street, not a one-way road<\/strong>: You must first respect your child for them to respect you. Courtesy and respect are essential to building a trusting and cooperative relationship with your little one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Listen to your child and acknowledge their feelings<\/strong>: Let them talk to you and express everything that weighs on them. Say, &#8220;I hear you,&#8221; &#8220;I understand you.&#8221; Give them the necessary time to respond and, above all, listen with your ears and your heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Establish small daily routines<\/strong>: This creates a sense of security for children and teaches them to manage their time correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Act as a team<\/strong>: Parents must have a united front in front of the children; otherwise, they won&#8217;t know what to follow and will get confused. Also, be a team with your children. Involve them in the process of setting goals and boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always explain what you want your child to do, not what you DON&#8217;T want. Explain what you expect from them and ask for <strong>a thank you in advance<\/strong>! Finally, try to use <strong>positive reinforcement<\/strong>, not negative. That means pleasure, not whining. Pride, not criticism.
